5 years ago I was celebrating my birthday in Bulgaria with some of my great Albanian friends, even if it was still COVID, not knowing how many versions of myself I would go through after that moment.
What followed wasn’t a straight line. There were moments of confusion, cultural shocks, distance from familiarity, and times of not fully understanding where I belonged.
USA 🇺🇸, Germany 🇩🇪, Egypt 🇪🇬, Bulgaria 🇧🇬… and finally Albania 🇦🇱 again — each place added something I only understand now in hindsight.
Even my path in History, which at times felt uncertain, became meaningful. It didn’t just give me knowledge — it gave me direction. A way to understand people, places, and identity across regions.
As Herodotus once said:
“History is a continuous inquiry into human actions.”
That idea stayed with me — that studying the past is about understanding how we become who we are.
In many ways, this felt like my own Odyssey — not of heroes and gods, but of distance, change, and return. Like The Odyssey, it was never just about where I went, but about who I became on the way back.
And I’ve always felt connected to journeys like One Piece — not because of adventure alone, but because of the idea that every experience shapes you, and every step has meaning in hindsight.
And somehow, that became my motivation: to one day contribute to telling the story of my region — Albania and the Balkans — not as something distant, but as something deeply connected to the wider world.
Today, I don’t see this journey as confusion anymore. I see it as formation.
I’m not just returning to a place — I’m returning to myself, with more clarity than before. I am Geri Mema, and one day, I wouldn't chase a title, but a purpose - to tell stories that matter.

2025 didn’t come gently, but it came honestly.
This year pushed me to move — across countries, borders, and versions of myself. I traveled through Egypt, Germany, Czechia, and Greece, and eventually found myself returning back home to Albania. Each place gave me something different: perspective, challenge, distance, and clarity.
Along the way, I finished my Master’s HCSM degree in BTU Cottbus and Helwan University Cairo — a milestone that came with pressure, uncertainty, and growth. There were moments when the future felt unclear, when plans had to change, and when I had to rely on myself more than ever.
2025 taught me that stability isn’t always something you’re given. Sometimes you build it while moving, learning, and adapting. I learned patience, resilience, and how to keep going even without perfect answers.
Looking back now, I see a year that shaped me quietly but deeply. Not perfect, not easy — but necessary.
Returning in Albania feels less like an ending and more like a pause before the next chapter.
