FWIW, they did send me a new car - just the car, boxed in the plastic display case, to bind to the transmitter that came with the first one - so I now have some spares too. I'd read they used to have a habit of closing cases prematurely, which worried me a little. Someone recommended I kept pestering them on a daily basis, which worked. Maybe they would have resolved it either way but it costs nothing to be persistent.
